Professor Leonid Libkin FRSE

Professor of Foundations of Data Management, University of Edinburgh.

Professor Leonid Libkin is a world class researcher in both logic and databases. He has answered some of the most challenging open problems in database theory about practical query languages; he has invented a new approach to database design; and he has produced a comprehensive body of work that unifies finite model theory, automata, and XML data. After receiving his PhD from the University of Pennsylvania in 1994, Leonid undertook research roles at Bell Laboratories in Murray Hill, New Jersey. He then joined the faculty of the University of Toronto, staying there until 2006 when he was appointed Professor of Foundations of Data Management at the University of Edinburgh.
