Professor Kevin Thompson is internationally recognised as one of the most pre-eminent academy and conservatoire directors. Since 2013 he has been The Master, Director do Colégio Memorial Moon Chun, Universidade de Macau. Previously, he led two of the United Kingdom’s most progressive performing arts institutions, the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and Dartington College. He is former director of Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. Kevin’s interests include the music of Britten and Holst and music inspired by Robert Burns. In 2012 he was appointed Knight Officier dans l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres. In 2017 with Knight Chevalier de l’Order National de la Legion d’honneur, and in 2019, The Grand Decoration of Honour for Services to Austria, Knight Officer’s Cross (Großes Ehrenzeichen für Verdienste um die Republik Österreich). He is a Churchill Fellow & Associate in Cambridge, Clare Hall. He was conferred with honorary doctorates from Royal Birmingham Conservatoire (2019 – founding RBC in 1988); University of Plymouth; and honorary fellowships from many leading music conservatoires. In 2019, he was elected to European Academy of Sciences and Arts, Salzburg.
