Professor James Charles Neil OBE, FRSE

Jim Neil, who died suddenly on 29 October 2018, was Professor of Virology and Molecular Oncology at the University of Glasgow and Associate Director of the MRC-University of Glasgow Centre for Virus Research. His titles reflect the broad range of his research activities: he was renowned internationally for his work on retroviruses, from genetics and molecular pathogenesis to vaccine development, and for his ground-breaking discovery of genes and their products that are involved in the development of cancer. For his service to biomedical science, the public and his University, he was awarded an OBE in 2017. Read more about Jim Neil
