Professor Gian-Luca Oppo FRSE

Professor Gian-Luca Oppo is Professor of Computational and Nonlinear Physics at the University of Strathclyde. He graduated from the University of Florence in 1983 and then worked at the universities of Toronto, Drexel in Philadelphia, and Nice, before joining Strathclyde in 1989. His research interests are in the applications of computational methods to laser physics, photonics, complex systems, nonlinear dynamics and quantum optics. Gian-Luca’s main achievements are in optical pattern formation and spatial solitons, for which he was awarded the Occhialini Medal and Prize by the Institute of Physics and the Italian Physical Society in 2011.
