Professor Gerard Charles Carruthers FRSE

Francis Hutcheson Professor of Scottish Literature, University of Glasgow.

Professor Gerald Carruthers is General Editor of the Oxford University Press edition of the works of Robert Burns, and has edited other writers including Walter Scott and James Bridie. He is a literary critic and cultural historian of the long eighteenth century, with interests too in the history of Scottish Studies, religious writing, detective fiction, Alexander Geddes and Muriel Spark. Gerald is research convener for ‘Burns Scotland’ (the National Burns Collection, bringing together national and local authority archives, libraries and museums), a member of the Abbotsford Library Advisory Group and serves on the editorial boards of a number of academic journals.
