Professor Steve Chapman FRSE

Vice-Chancellor and President, Edith Cowan University

Prof Steve Chapman was President and Vice-Chancellor of Edith Cowan University in Western Australia between 2015 and 2024. He was the Principal of Heriot-Watt University from 2009 and, prior to that, Vice-Principal at the University of Edinburgh. Prof Chapman obtained his Ph.D. In Chemistry from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne after which he undertook postdoctoral work at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In 2001 he received the Interdisciplinary award of the Royal Society of Chemistry for his research at the interface of chemistry and biology. In 2016 he was awarded a CBE for his services to higher education. He returned to Edinburgh in 2025 after a decade in Australia.
