I am a retired honorary fellow of the James Hutton Institute and Professor Emeritus, the University of St Andrews. I have >20 years experience in research on plant virology, plant health and diagnostics and agricultural crop systems, particularly climate and disease resilient potato systems in sub-Saharan Africa. I served in many senior leadership positions at JHI and retired as Exec Director of Science in 2024, responsibilities included overseeing the Scottish Government-funded science programme at Hutton and managing the Crop and Ecological Sciences Departments. I have a strong interest in international development and am a member of the CGIAR Independent Science for Development Council.
