Professor Emeritus Arthur Trew FRSE

I am an astronomer by background, and a computational scientist by conversion. At the University of Edinburgh I was at various times: Director of a Research Institute, Head of the School of Physics and Astronomy, Assistant Principal Computational Science and Deputy Head of the College of Science and Engineering. I became an Emeritus Professor in 2024. I am a Director of a wholly-owned subsidiary of the University that holds high-value contracts for supercomputing facilities.
I was elected to the RSE in 2011. Initially, I served on several Sectional Committees and chaired the RSE/STFC Enterprise Fellowships Committee. Then, in 2023 I was co-opted on to the RSE Council – a position that, following the 2024 election has been extended for another three years. In addition, I am a member of the Fellowship, Finance and Resources, and Audit and Risk Committees and participated in the Fellowship Election Process Working Group.
