Professor Brian Walker FRSE

Professor of Medicine and Strategic Advisor, Newcastle University

Brian Walker was Deputy Vice Chancellor at Newcastle University from 2022 to 2024, having served as Pro Vice Chancellor for Research Strategy & Resources since 2017. Previously at University of Edinburgh as Head of the BHF Centre for Cardiovascular Science and Dean of Research for Medicine & Veterinary Medicine, his research targets steroid stress hormones in cardiovascular disease. Formerly a panel chair for Wellcome Trust, BHF, MRC and UKRI, and a member of MRC’s Strategy Board and of the Clinical Medicine sub-panel for REF2021, Brian is currently a BHF Trustee, a member/chair of several Scientific Advisory Boards, and a member of the Scottish Funding Council Research and Knowledge Exchange Committee.
