Professor Bettina Bildhauer FRSE
Professor of Modern Languages, University of St Andrews
I am a medievalist with a specialism in German-language literary texts in their multilingual, social and cultural contexts. My main current research areas are the history and politics of menstruation and menopause, and queer gender in global medieval literature. For my overall contributions to research, I was awarded a Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel Research Award in 2020 and a Philip Leverhulme Prize in 2009. You can listen to me getting excited about the medieval German epic Nibelungenlied on In Our Time.
