Dr Sally Beamish is an internationally renowned composer of concert and stage music. She moved to Scotland in 1990 after spending 10 years in London as a viola player in chamber ensembles. She has received a steady stream of commissions since then, and from 1998 to 2002 was composer in residence with the Swedish Chamber Orchestra and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra. her music is influenced by jazz, folk and the natural world. In 2020 she received an OBE for services to music in the Queen’s birthday honours list.
