Dr Michel Virlogeux

Dr Michel Virlogeux graduated from the Ecole Polytechnique in 1967 and from the Ecole Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées in 1970. He received an Engineering Doctorate at the Pierre et Marie Curie University, Paris, in 1973. Michel worked as a civil servant in Tunisia for three years (1971-73) and in the French bridge administration (SETRA) for twenty years (1974-94). Since 1995 he has worked as an independent consulting engineer. He has designed a large number of bridges, including the Normandy Bridge and the Millau Viaduct. Michel has received many awards including the ISE and ICE Gold Medals, and is member of several national academies, including the Royal Academy of Engineering, the French Academy of Engineering and the Indian Academy of Engineering. He is Professor of Bridge Design and Construction at the Ecole Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées.
