Professor Christopher John Hawkesworth FRSE, FRS

Professor Christopher Hawkesworth is an isotope and trace geochemist who has had a distinguished career both as a scientist and as a senior university administrator. He is interested in constraining the timing and the rates of change of natural processes from the geological and planetary record and has worked on the generation and evolution of mountain belts and the continual crust. After receiving a DPhil from the University of Oxford in 1974, Christopher took up positions at the universities of Leeds, Auckland and the Open University. From 2000 to 2009 he was Professor of Earth Sciences at the University of Bristol. He left this role to become Deputy Principal and Vice-Principal for Research at the University of St Andrews before returning to Bristol in 2014.
