Baroness Onora O’Neill of Bengarve

Onora O’Neill combines work in political philosophy and ethics with public life. She was Principal of Newnham College and Professor of Philosophy in Cambridge from 1992-2006, President of the British Academy from 2005-9, chaired the Nuffield Foundation from 1998-2010, and has been a crossbench member of the House of Lords since 2000. She chaired the UK’s Equality and Human Rights Commission from 2012-16, and served on the Medical Research Council and the Banking Standards Board until 2018. She lectures and writes on justice and ethics, accountability and trust, justice and borders, as well as on the future of universities, the quality of legislation and the ethics of communication.
