About this event
What we know (and don’t know) about space
Space is a vast realm filled with celestial wonders. From the Moon, the planets of our Solar System, to billions of stars, galaxies and mysterious black holes, the Universe is home to phenomena that continue to surprise scientists with every new discovery.
Although we’ve learned an extraordinary amount about the cosmos, we’ve only explored a tiny fraction of what’s out there.
Join astrophysicist Dr Anne-Marie Weijmans as she takes us on a journey through the Universe and the remarkable space objects within it. Together, we’ll explore questions like: Was there ever life on Mars? Why is Pluto no longer a planet? And what are the oldest objects in the Universe?

This event takes place at the Pitlochry Festival Theatre, and is part of the A Beer, A Bap and A Boffin event series in collaboration with the Pitlochry Festival Theatre. Dr Anne-Marie Weijmans
Reader in Astrophysics, University of St AndrewsDr Anne-Marie Weijmans is a Reader in Astrophysics at the University of St Andrews. Her research concentrates on the structure and evolution of galaxies and mapping their dark matter haloes. She is the Data Products Manager of the Sloan Digital Sky Surveys, and the director of Shine: a project that explores the properties of light and its role in modern astronomical research through science, art and music. She regularly gives public talks and school workshops on various aspects of astronomy.
