Periodicals received by exchange

Since the late 1700s, the RSE has acquired a large collection of periodicals and scientific journals. Many of these were received in exchange for the Society’s own publications with learned institutions all over the world. Today the collection stands at over 5,000 titles, with many of the titles not held anywhere else in Scotland. The collection covers every aspect of pure science.

In 1981, the RSE transferred its foreign periodicals to the National Library of Scotland. Today, these periodicals can be viewed by appointment with the National Library of Scotland.
